As economic actors increasingly emphasize social responsibility and environmental consciousness, investors now seek data beyond traditional financial metrics to inform their decisions. Measuring and reporting sustainability and climate risks, a relatively new discipline, has significantly evolved, though it still has much progress to make in fully integrating new metrics into risk management frameworks. This essay examines the importance of third-party data vendors for sustainability, ESG, and climate risk information, and the challenges they face. It also discusses the evolution of this market, the regulatory landscape, and the unique roles and challenges faced by central banks in promoting sustainability.
