Last week was the final session of the MCC Debate Leader training
Since its establishment in 2019, the main goal of the Debate Academy has been to promote and develop rational debate culture throughout the Carpathian Basin.
The success of this endeavour was demonstrated at the weekend when the 80th debater received their certificate of completion of the fifth successfully completed training course. This year was more special than last year in that MCC colleagues and students were able to participate in the training.
During the graduation ceremony, a total of 30 debaters received their certificates of completion, which included a requirement to give an account of their independent debating activities this year during the two-day closing session.
After the debriefing, the participants were introduced to the problem-solving format, where the success of the debate depends on the agreement between the parties, as opposed to the competitive debate format they have been learning so far.
Finally, they were able to watch a debate between Stephen Sholl and Luke Larson, visiting lecturers from the MCC in the US, who discussed the differences between the North and South of the US.
The British Parliamentary Debate was also on the agenda, where extreme mountaineering was debated.
Congratulations and we look forward to welcoming you to our Debate Leader based Trainer and Mentor training!
